There’s more to life than numbers

Sometimes we can get lost in the pursuit of numbers.

I need more followers, likes, shares, retweets, plusses!

Not that they necessarily lead to more sales or transactions, but they look and sound good, so they must be of value.

Over the past day, what have really had an impact on me are individual messages from people: an enthusiastic thank you for a ‘perfect’ press release I have written, a question from a contact looking forward to meeting at a networking event and another thank you from someone grateful for an article I published about them.

I appreciate the time these people took to tell me.

I know numbers are in important for measuring activity and success, but they only so far.

A heartfelt ‘thank you’ from a real person means so much more and makes everything worthwhile.

  1. They both have a place, but if I HAD to chose between receiving numbers, likes etc and personal messages, I’d chose the personal messages … as long as they were positive 😉
